Dave Bautista has no intention of reprising the role of Drax the Destroyer in the MCU, at least not for the moment, but soon we’ll see him tackle another character in God of War. The actor has been chosen to portray Kratos, and his casting had already been teased long ago by his most devoted fans, as evidenced by a charming clip coming from the Christmas special episode of Guardians of the Galaxy. Chosen to play Kratos in the upcoming Prime Video adaptation of God of War, Dave Bautista has replaced Ryan Hurst, who had to leave the series after an injury, meaning all scenes already shot by Hurst will have to be reshot by Bautista.
This means that the audience will have to wait a little longer for a glimpse of Bautista’s take on the role, but recently a clip from the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special resurfaced online, giving a wink to the series in question. In the scene, Drax and Mantis roam Earth during the holiday season and cross paths with a cheerful family who ask them to take selfies together. Before they move on, the mother tells the children: “Did you see, we have a photo with the God of War.”

In principio Ryan Hurst era stato scelto per interpretare Kratos, ma a causa di un infortunio ha dovuto rinunciare al progetto. Alcuni fan hanno sperato che Prime Video decidesse di attendere la ripresa dell’attore, ma la piattaforma ha deciso di seguire una strada diversa assegnando il personaggio ad un altro attore, che i fan avevano già da tempo indicato come favorito. Secondo Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios e Sony Pictures Television avrebbero contattato Dave Bautista e avviato le trattative poco prima di decidere di affidare il ruolo a un diverso interprete.
God of War è tratto dall’omonimo franchise di videogiochi action-adventure e ha come protagonista il dio Kratos, ambientato sulla Terra in tempi antichi e popolato da divinità e creature mitologiche. Per quanto riguarda la serie TV, come riporta Deadline avvierà le riprese ad ottobre a Vancouver e partirà da zero, senza utilizzare filmati realizzati in precedenza.
