Guy Pearce as Rupert Murdoch in Ink Trailer – Danny Boyle’s Venice 2026 Opening Film

Right after the opening ceremony of the Venezia Film Festival 2026, tonight there will be a world premiere in the Grand Hall of the Palazzo del Cinema Ink, the new highly anticipated film by the Oscar- and BAFTA-winning director Danny Boyle, starring Jack O’Connell, Guy Pearce and Claire Foy.
Written by the Olivier Award-winning playwright James Graham, who adapted the screenplay from his own eponymous play Ink, it takes us back to 1969, the year when Rupert Murdoch (Guy Pearce) and Larry Lamb (Jack O’Connell) launched a new tabloid that, against all odds, became the world’s best-selling newspaper: The Sun.
The film by Danny Boyle, which for the first time in his long career participates in the Venice Film Festival, reconstructs, in fact, the story of Rupert Murdoch’s purchase of The Sun and how he entrusted its direction to the unscrupulous Larry Lamb, turning it into the most popular English tabloid scandal sheet, at the expense of rival The Mirror.
