‘Harry Potter’ Adds Nicholas Hoult to Its Cast as Superman’s Main Villain

Hogwarts students have a little less to worry about with the arrival of the castle’s new guardian. Warner Bros. is betting big on the second season of the eagerly awaited ‘Harry Potter’ series even before the premiere of the first, and it has announced the first casting addition for the show’s second year of adventures of the boy wonder. The choice promises to be challenging, because no matter how much you may think of him as an ally, you can never trust Lex Luthor: Nicholas Hoult is the marquee signing.

The arch-enemy of the superheroes in ‘Superman’ will step into the magical realm with the role of Gilderoy Lockhart, a wizard of considerable talent who absolutely has nothing to hide. Charismatic, good-looking and lacking in humility, Lockhart is one of Potter’s greatest obstacles in his second book, ‘The Chamber of Secrets’, where he appears as the new professor of the Defence Against the Dark Arts. An obstacle because his classes don’t focus on teaching useful skills, and the boy grows suspicious of his motives given he is such a grand wizard.

Nicholas Hoult no longer wants Superman’s head: now he’s aiming at the nightmares of the Boy Who Lived (Warner Bros.)

The addition of Hoult to the cast is merely temporary, since the character only has a significant presence in the second book. Likewise, bringing in someone so popular in cinema demonstrates the studio’s confidence in the project, which is pouring all its resources into securing the best possible version of the adventures of the Harry Potter saga.

The question is how Hoult will balance it with his other commitments. At the moment he is filming Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to Superman. Once he finishes that, he has The Servant with Francis Lee at the helm, and also a new TV series under the name Mosquito with 20th Television. It’s hard to imagine that shooting a full season of Harry Potter could be quick, so his schedule for the upcoming year might be quite tight.

Return of the magic

‘Harry Potter’ has not yet released its first season and a second season has already been renewed. Warner Bros. is confident in its success and, for now, we can only trust. The series is arriving on HBO Max on the upcoming December 25, 2026, and will consist of eight episodes to fully adapt ‘The Philosopher’s Stone’.
