Hunger Games: Harvest Dawn – Box Office Forecasts for the New Installment

Hunger Games: The Dawn on the Harvest could bring the cinematic saga adapted from the Suzanne Collins novels back to the splendor of the box office of the original quadrilogy with Jennifer Lawrence, as the early US box-office results for the first weekend appear to indicate: we will then verify whether they are even surpassed, and above all we will understand what impact this will have here in Italy starting on November 19, noting that the film will be shown in a special screening at Lucca Comics & Games 2026 on November 1 (at 6 PM and 8 PM at the Cinema Astra, for the record). Let’s read a few numbers.

Will Hunger Games: The Dawn on the Harvest surpass The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes?

So it seems: the latest Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes kicked off in 2023 with “only” $44.6 million in its first weekend in the US, reaching a worldwide total of about $364 million (but it didn’t flop, given Deadline’s budget reported around $100 million). According to EmpireCity Box Office’s figures, for Hunger Games: The Dawn on the Harvest the chatter is instead of a debut over $100 million: such a figure could bring this franchise back to the glory days of the box office, not quite at the peak reached by the second installment Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013, starting from $158 million, worldwide total $870 million), but still in the ring of blockbusters worthy of the fight.
To complete the reasoning, the first Hunger Games (2012) opened with $152 million in the US and ended with $695 million worldwide, the third Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014) with $122 and $762 million, the fourth Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015) with $103 million and $684 million. In Italy the saga grossed respectively €3,051,800, €8,142,000, €8,904,000, €8,175,000 and €5,580,000 (source Cinetel).
Naturally, considering that fourteen years separate us from the first adaptation with Jennifer Lawrence, all these figures would need to be adjusted for inflation accumulated over a decade and more, or better yet one should consider the number of tickets sold. We cannot do this for foreign data, but in Italy, thanks to the Cinetel archives, we can tell you that the films registered these admissions in chronological order: 470,809, 1,252,962, 1,335,804, 1,192,096 and 736,746.
