I Just Wanted It to End: The Queen Carlotta Star Reveals the Most Exhausting On-Set Take

So far the Bridgerton universe has spurred several spin-off projects, but the very first was the one about Queen Charlotte, a limited series released on Netflix in 2023 and conceived by Shonda Rhimes that offered the audience a glimpse into the past, revealing how the love story between the Queen Charlotte and the King George III came to be. Three years have passed since then, and India Amarteifio, who portrayed the young Queen, has shared more about the hard work behind the scenes and how demanding it was.

Queen Charlotte, India Amarteifio explains how demanding it was to satisfy the director’s demands during filming

While Bridgerton continues its swift pace with a highly anticipated fifth season slated to stream in 2027 and another prequel spin-off dedicated to Lady Violet and the love story with her husband Edmund, the Queen Charlotte spin-off lasted only one season, comprising six episodes. Despite its short run, the story was very well received by audiences who were able to deepen the true nature of its bond with George III.

As is known, hers is an arranged marriage. Princess Carlotta Augusta arrived in the United Kingdom to wed King George III, a man who appeared kind and good-hearted but who concealed a significant secret that would influence her relationship, her marriage, and her kingdom. George was portrayed by Cory Mylchreest. Years after that, India Amarteifio spoke about the behind-the-scenes work with director Tom Verica and how meticulous he was. For example, in an interview with Collider, she recalled the small number of takes she had to repeat on set: “Oh, countless. More than 13. It was for Queen Charlotte, over 13. Our director knew exactly what he wanted and kept saying: ‘Again, again, and again’, and you reach a point where you almost channel that passion and a pinch of anger thinking: ‘I just want to finish it!’ And usually it’s the last take that ends up working.”

Queen Charlotte highlighted not only the ups and downs of the marriage with George III, but also showed how her strong friendship with Lady Danbury came to be, introducing a young Violet as well. The latter will now headline a new spin-off devoted to her love story with Edmund Bridgerton, and it is likely that India Amarteifio will reprise the role of Charlotte due to the timeline of the plot.
