Is Abbott Elementary Like Grey’s Anatomy? Sheryl Lee Ralph’s Prediction

Sheryl Lee Ralph has a fairly clear idea of how much longer Abbott Elementary, the award-winning TV series comedy created and starring Quinta Brunson, could continue to run, and, in Italy, it’s available for streaming on Disney+; according to one of its leading stars, it could even last as long as Grey’s Anatomy.

Abbott Elementary, Abbott Elementary suggests how long the TV series could endure

As of today, Abbott Elementary comprises six seasons, the most recent one arriving in 2026, but Sheryl Lee Ralph remains optimistic and believes the show could follow the example of one of the longest-running medical dramas on television.

Portraying Barbara Howard, a character for whom she earned an Emmy Award, Sheryl Lee Ralph spoke to People about how long Abbott Elementary could go on: “I adore Barbara Howard; I could never tire of her and I want to embark on this journey alongside her.” Barbara is one of the several teachers who populate the school at the heart of the comedy, and the actress could continue playing her for a long time: “If the series were to last five more seasons, that would be 11 in total, I would very much like to keep portraying this character and, just as I continue to grow, I hope she, as a character, continues to evolve. Everything is in Quinta Brunson’s hands.”

Very optimistic, the actress even invoked Grey’s Anatomy: “Here’s how I see it: if Grey’s Anatomy has gone on for twenty years, why can’t we do the same?” The medical drama in question reached screens in 2005 and by 2026 it remains on air with 23 seasons. As for Abbott Elementary, the series to date has won critical acclaim, taking home a number of awards such as Golden Globes, Emmy Awards and Critics’ Choice Awards.
