The third season of Lioness has just wrapped up, with a couple of twists that have shuffled the cards on the table quite a bit. The audience is dying to know more, and yet, as of today, Paramount+ has not spoken about the future of the spy thriller created by Taylor Sheridan. A renewal for a fourth batch of episodes isn’t guaranteed, especially since Nicole Kidman, the series’ lead alongside Zoe Saldaña, felt the urge to issue a call to fans, encouraging them to raise their voices.
Lioness, Will a Fourth Season Happen? Nicole Kidman’s Statements
The latest episode of Lioness offered by Paramount+ last Sunday revealed that—spoilers ahead!—Aaliyah Amrohi (played by Stephanie Nur), a character we hadn’t seen in a while, is the mastermind behind Joe McNamara’s kidnapping (Saldaña); a vendetta tied to events from the first season. While her vendetta plan is far from over, determined to lure the entire Lioness team into the trap, back home, Joe learned that Neal and his daughters had left. If the series continues, all of this would pose a huge challenge for Kaitlyn Meade, Kidman’s character, the CIA chief overseeing Joe.
“I never get to play such a tough character,” Kidman told Entertainment Weekly about her experience in Lioness. “She is a powerful woman who stays calm under pressure and knows how to act strategically. Moreover, her ability to compartmentalize emotions and handle life-or-death situations represents something entirely new to me. I suddenly find myself operating in a mental dimension where I, Nicole, do not recognize myself at all. Many people approach me, expressing admiration for Kaitlyn; I think it’s because she handles every situation without ever losing control. And if it ever happens, it would always be for a strategic choice. She possesses, in short, an incredible emotional discipline.”
Regarding what the future might hold for the character, the actress added: “There is a lot at stake. We’ll see how the story evolves, whether we manage to produce a fourth season. It is such a rich story that offers so many different paths to explore. In the first season the foundations were laid, and the beauty of creating more seasons is that everything becomes deeper, richer and more complex. Taylor is such a skilled writer that he can take the story in any direction.” With that said, “we must make our voices heard. I have great faith in this series, so I’m glad that others appreciate it as well. It seems to forge a truly growing bond with the audience as it unfolds. Come on: we must make ourselves heard, we demand it!”
