After so much heat, the first gloomy days are beginning. Some will be glad, others will suffer; it does not matter whether you belong to the first or the second circle of people, because in both cases there is something here that is perfect for you: a small list of TV series to retreat to when it’s raining outside. Cloudy skies, enveloping mysteries, slow investigations are the ideal ingredients for an afternoon or an evening when the weather doesn’t promise anything good.

Sharp Objects

Here Camille stays with her aloof mother, Adora, and her sister Amma, and is called to follow a dramatic case: the disappearance of two girls. For her it won’t be easy to handle this case, because through it she will learn about a series of disturbing secrets that concern the whole community, and will come into contact with her own demons, which perhaps she has never really shaken off. The investigations to bring to light the truth about what happened to poor Rosie are led by Sarah Linden, a detective, aided by the former undercover Stephen Holder. The Killing is a 2011 TV series, in which the same story is observed from three simultaneous perspectives: that of the police, that of the victim’s family and that of the new mayor. Four seasons and 44 episodes, available on Disney+.
Broadchurch
Broadchurch is a melancholic seaside town where the sky is always gray, and now also the setting for a brutal crime: on the beach is found the body of little Danny Latimer. Local inspector Ellie Miller is joined by the new detective, Alec Hardy, to carry out the investigations into this terrible murder. As the two investigators tirelessly work to ensure the child finally gets the justice he deserves, the community begins to show its first cracks: apparently everyone hides sordid secrets here. Broadchurch is a 2013 TV series with Olivia Colman and David Tennant in the lead roles, and it consists of three seasons and 24 episodes that you can watch on Netflix.
