Filming has just wrapped in Trento on È il pensiero che conta, the new film directed and starring Neri Marcorè, returning behind the camera two years after the critical and audience success of Zamora.
Based on an idea by Marcorè himself and co-written with Paola Mammini, Maurizio Careddu and Alessandro Rossi, the film produced by Pepito Produzioni with Rai Cinema, features in its cast, alongside Marcorè, Ksenia Rappoport, Euridice Axen, Fausto Maria Sciarappa, Giampiero Iudica, Alex Cendron, Beatrice De Mei, Alvise Marascalchi, Gianluca De Angelis, Tommaso Cassissa, Marco Todisco, Claudio Castrogiovanni, Alberto Paradossi, Roberto Citran and Maurizio Micheli.
Set in Trento, the film centers on Franco Morandi, a man who has made immobility his comfort zone. He systematically avoids conflicts, living by reassuring routines: tennis matches, the beloved songs of Drupi, and the hospitality of his caustic octogenarian father, from whom he has taken refuge after separating from his wife Lucrezia (to whom, out of pure inertia, he still refuses the divorce).
Everything unfolds in a tranquil bubble until a breakdown of the air conditioner hurls him into the middle of a university philosophy lecture. By chance he overhears the magnetic professor Teresa Nowak speaking about happiness and awareness, and Franco is suddenly struck by it. He begins to covertly attend courses and to devour books, waking up from a long inner torpor. This abrupt metamorphosis, however, quickly undermines his old world: work goes into crisis, friends drift away, and the rift with his daughter Martina, a young activist who ends up on trial for a protest, widens. At that point, Franco must decide whether to backtrack or continue exploring the discovery of a new self, facing the new life challenges with courage and a free-spirited approach.
