Japan Meets Manhattan: Watch the Karoshi Trailer

“Karōshi” is the Japanese term for sudden death linked to work, the so-called death by overwork, a phenomenon tragically statistically significant in Japanese society. And Karōshi is also the title of a new action-thriller film that marks the meeting between Japanese and American cultures both in cinema and in exposing the dark side of the world’s large corporations today. The film, scheduled to release in United States cinemas on February 5, 2027, was written and directed by the Japanese-American director Takashi Doscher, and features an international cast comprising Teo Yoo, Isabel May, Cynthia Erivo, Takehiro Hira, Giancarlo Esposito and Bill Camp. Produced by Chad Stahelski, the man behind the John Wick series.
Set in a futuristic Manhattan heavily influenced by Japan, where corporate loyalty and cultural traditions have given a new shape to the daily life of citizens, the film tells the story of a man who infiltrates a powerful company after the death of a worker, bringing to light a violent and ruthless system that hides behind the cold and seemingly flawless surface of things.
Here is the first official trailer for Karōshi.
