At the Cannes Film Festival, where it had its world premiere last May, it was perhaps the most beautiful thing we’ve seen, but also the film that — in a somewhat inexplicable way — returned home without even a single prize. Not even the one everyone was betting on a bit, namely the Best Actor award, since in Being Loved the lead, Javier Bardem, delivers a performance quite terrifying in its intensity and effectiveness. Now the film, a new extraordinary work signed by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, is finally set to arrive in Italian cinemas from November 12, distributed by Movies Inspired (though there will also be preview screenings as part of the upcoming Rome Film Festival), and its official Italian trailer has thus been released, which you can watch below.
Written by Sorogoyen together with his usual writing partner Isabel Peña, Being Loved tells the story of a brilliant and multi-award-winning Spanish director (also with Oscars) who, after years spent in the United States, returns to his homeland to shoot a new film but also to settle scores with a stormy past from a personal, professional and family perspective. For the role of the female lead in this film, the director, who is named Esteban Martínez, indeed casts Emilia, the daughter who acts and whom he had basically abandoned when she was still a child: and the set will become the place where this emotionally complicated bond will be worked through through clashes, attempts to get closer, and silences.
