Following the critical success that the latest adaptation of ‘Resident Evil’ has proven to be, its director is already looking toward the future. Zach Cregger does not intend to leave the world of horror anytime soon, and he already has a title and release date for his next project. The big surprise is that added to all this is that he already has secured his lead actress, and it may catch more than a few by surprise: Jennifer Lawrence.
The Hunger Games star will dare to try her hand in the horror genre, which seems to be her director’s most popular in recent years. Together they will work to bring to life ‘The Flood’, a feature produced under the banner of Warner Bros. as with ‘Weapons’. Its release is planned for August 11, 2028, so we’ll have to wait a bit longer to enjoy the film in full.
The Rise of Cregger
The past few years have been very good for director Zach Cregger, who has revitalized the horror genre with his latest and boldest offerings. His first foray into the genre, ‘Barbarian’, was an unexpectedly successful move for everyone involved, and ‘Weapons’ secured an Oscar for actress Amy Madigan. His most recent feature, ‘Resident Evil’, has garnered a sea of praise despite initial reluctance from fans of the franchise to see a looser adaptation than the previous installments, which is turning into a solid box-office success.
Similarly, Jennifer Lawrence has had a busy few years with a whole slate of projects, some still in development. Her next film before working with Cregger will be ‘What Happens at Night’, where she will have the opportunity to work for the first time with legendary Martin Scorsese. She also has in her plans the prequel ‘The Hunger Games: Dawn on the Harvest’, a nod to the franchise that propelled her to fame.
Terror Guaranteed
The pairing of Cregger and Lawrence will bring us something fantastic in 2028, and to ensure that everything goes according to plan the project will have Roy Lee and Miri Yoon as producers. All signs point to the director’s fourth foray into pure fear being well on track, to the fans’ relief.
