La Gradiva: the plot
La Gradiva was written and directed by the French director of photography and screenwriter Marine Atlan, produced by Les Films du Poisson, and co-produced by Bibi Film. With dazzling and vibrant direction, La Gradiva, entirely shot in Italy between Naples and Pompeii, fuses realism and mythology, and captures a snapshot of adolescence and its anxieties reflected in the eternity of the ruins of Naples and Pompeii. The feature debut of Marine Atlan tells, through an original perspective free from stereotypes and clichés, the journey of a class of French high school students to Pompeii, discovering the ruins and bodies petrified by the eruption of Vesuvius. The visit becomes a unique experience, where the vigor of youth meets a world frozen in time. In contact with that immovable past, the desires of the youths begin to surface with unexpected intensity, leading them toward an irreparable fracture.
