Not long ago, Ryan Murphy spoke about the possibility of a reboot for Glee, and that topic has recently been tackled by one of the undeniable stars of the musical TV series. Lea Michele played the incredibly ambitious Rachel Berry across six seasons, becoming a central heartbeat of the story told by Murphy from 2009 to 2015. And, although her career has moved forward since then, Lea Michele has confessed what she thinks about a potential Glee reboot and whether she would enjoy being part of it.
Glee, Lea Michele wouldn’t say no to another round with Rachel Berry
Set at William McKinley High School, Glee introduced a group of not-so-popular students tackling the glee club led by Mr. Schuester and promptly blocked by the cunning Sue Sylvester. Rachel Berry is perhaps one of the most ambitious in the group: her voice is amazing, but she soon realizes that she isn’t the only talent on the team, and learning to make room for others was a hard job to complete.
After six seasons and several tragedies that afflicted the cast of Glee (such as the deaths of Cory Monteith, Mark Salling, and Naya Rivera), Lea Michele was asked about a potential reboot of Glee. Ryan Murphy had only discussed the possibility of a new cycle of episodes, and Lea Michele also voiced her opinion, admitting that she isn’t opposed to the idea of a reboot. She recalled the look of her character, from miniskirts to knee-high socks, admitting that she wouldn’t mind wearing them again. In an interview with E! News during an event at New York Fashion Week, she revealed: “I love Glee, I will love it forever. I love Ryan Murphy, he holds a really special place in my heart.”
Finally she clarified that everything would depend on the creator: “I’ll follow Ryan wherever he goes.” Lea Michele’s interest is certainly promising for a potential reboot of Glee, the feasibility of which Ryan Murphy himself recently discussed. In an interview with People, she had admitted: “That show is interesting because it’s come back into fashion. A lot of young people are watching it now. And I think: ‘Maybe we should reboot it.’ The nostalgia and the love I feel for that show are such that I think: ‘Well, perhaps people would like to see a new version in some way.’” Glee launched the careers of numerous talents like Darren Criss, Amber Riley, Alex Newell, Dianna Agron and many others.
Even though Lea Michele has said she is open to the possibility, not all of the Glee cast would return for a second round. For instance, Amber Riley, who played Mercedes Jones, during the podcast Monét Talks addressed the question, admitting she wasn’t interested. “We did an outstanding job; I don’t want to risk disrupting a winning formula.” At the same time she admitted that she would rather prefer a new version with new performers: “We lost some cast members. I have the sense that the chemistry, that formula, was so specific, and now it has changed, so I don’t know if it would be as effective.”
