Lisa Kudrow Goes Unfiltered After Years Away From Friends: She Won’t Do This for Fans

Lisa Kudrow has played numerous characters throughout her career, but perhaps the most beloved and remembered by fans is Phoebe in Friends, the hit sitcom that ran for ten seasons from 1994 to 2004 and helped launch the careers of all of her co-stars, including Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox. Yet, after all these years, Kudrow has admitted that, as much as she loved making that TV series, she wouldn’t redo one particular thing merely because of fan demand.

Friends, Lisa Kudrow admits the one fan request she can’t bring herself to fulfill

Lisa Kudrow cherishes the lasting impact Friends has had on the world of entertainment, remaining a title that remains popular to this day. The story revolves around six friends who share the joys and sorrows of everyday life, often meeting at Monica’s apartment, which has become a touchstone for their circle.

As a guest on the program Fresh Air with Terry Gross and Tonya Mosley, the actress who portrays Phoebe discussed her relationship with the character, admitting that she has “absolutely nothing to complain about regarding Friends or anything connected to it.” She doesn’t mind repeating the most memorable lines when fans ask, or when they refer to her by the name of her character. She stated that every aspect of making Friends was extraordinary: “The rapport with the other actors was fantastic. We had a lot of fun; it’s rare, and there was sincere and mutual respect. It was a wonderful bond that required effort from us, and we put in the work.”

For instance, she recalled that during breaks between takes, the cast would spend time together, perhaps playing poker. And, while she loved acting in Friends, Lisa Kudrow admitted there’s something she will never do: “Sometimes people stop me to ask me to sing, ‘Smelly Cat.’ But I don’t want to do it; I don’t feel like it.”

“Smelly Cat” was one of Phoebe’s quirkiest and most iconic songs, becoming a true catchphrase for Friends, but the actress doesn’t seem to be a fan of it.
