Lizzie Borden Opens With Strong Premiere, Crew Girl Surprise: Netflix’s Most-Watched TV Series This Week

The darkest crime stories continue to fascinate Netflix’s audience. In the week spanning September 14 through 20, 2026, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, the fourth season of the anthology series Monster, captured the attention of the service’s subscribers, racking up 12.1 million views in the first four days of availability. This is a solid performance, higher than many of the platform’s recent returns, and in line with both the debut figure of the previous cycle focused on Ed Gein and the debut figure of the second season about the Menendez brothers. Given that the season still has ample room to grow, this bodes well for a swift renewal of the series.

But there is another title that last week, in a decidedly more unexpected development, drew Netflix’s global audience: Crew Girl. The Canadian teen drama, the story of a talented rower who joins a chaotic all-male rowing team, creating tension on and off the water, came very close to the Lizzie Borden story’s performance, accumulating 11.3 million views. This enabled it to reach the second spot in the Top 10 Most-Watched TV Series, more than doubling the result achieved in its debut week. This success helps explain the very recent news of its renewal for a second season.

The English crime drama The Gentlemen kept a position in the rankings with both of its seasons, the latter of which generated an additional 6 million views, the third-best result among English-language series and in absolute terms. Among foreign-language series, the most viewed for the second consecutive week was The Bitter Taste of Betrayal (7 million views). The Dutch thriller follows four well-off couples who regularly host exclusive dinners, living amid extravagance and flawless friendships. The pretty façade, however, hides numerous cracks. When Evert, one of the men in the group, dies in a house fire while his wife and children manage to escape, Karen, the newest arrival, begins to wonder whether it was truly an accident.
