The fate of Assane Diop already seemed sealed. After fooling criminals, law enforcement, and powerful adversaries for years, Lupin’s protagonist had chosen to give up his freedom to safeguard the people he loves. But judging by the first official trailer for Part 4 released by Netflix, the prison won’t stop the most famous gentleman thief on television. Or at least not stop a… clone? The new season, with Omar Sy once again in the lead role, will arrive on Netflix on October 23, 2026 and will consist of eight episodes. Watch below the preview in which we see the protagonist trying to stop a thief who pretends to be him. But with Lupin, as we know, there is only one.
Lupin: The previews for Part 4
Lupin Part 4 begins four years after the end of the previous chapter. Assane wants to serve his sentence and keep the promise he made to his son to visit the family in Senegal. Yet his plans are disrupted by a mysterious announcement signed by Lupin, claiming that several museums will be robbed simultaneously. We therefore glimpse Assane again, in a variety of settings, among cars, subway stations and locations whose atmosphere has clearly grown tenser. We also see a lone figure inside a cell, an image that directly evokes the surprising ending of Part 3. The early footage does not reveal Assane’s next target, but it’s evident that he will eventually regain his freedom. He has a new plan, and his talent for disguises, escapes, and seemingly impossible schemes will again prove decisive.
Lupin Part 4: Where We Left Off
As in the previous seasons, the reference point remains the Arsène Lupin literary universe, the celebrated gentleman thief created by Maurice Leblanc and reimagined by the series through the adventures of Assane Diop. Details about the plot of Part 4 remain shrouded in mystery, but the starting point is particularly intriguing. At the end of the previous season, Assane voluntarily decided to surrender to the police, bringing his long chase to an end. The new footage, however, seems to hint that staying behind bars might not be destined to last. Will he stay incarcerated, or has he already devised a way to turn this situation into yet another caper? “Lupin is an extraordinary toy,” Omar Sy told Tudum about his relationship with the series. “I feel immense joy every time I return to interpret it.”
Lupin: The Recap of the Previous Seasons
In the first three parts, Assane Diop turned his passion for Arsène Lupin into a weapon for avenging his father Babakar, who was unjustly accused of stealing Marie Antoinette’s necklace due to Hubert Pellegrini’s schemes. After exposing Pellegrini’s plots and helping to arrest him along with the corrupt Commissioner Dumont, Assane continued to live as a fugitive, facing new heists and repeatedly risking his own freedom and his family’s safety. In Part 3 he stole the legendary Black Pearl, gained the support of the French public, staged a fake death, and saved his mother Mariama. In the end, though, he realized that the only way to secure a peaceful future for Claire, his son Raoul, his mother, and his friend Benjamin was to sacrifice himself: thus he decided to surrender to the police, ending the season behind bars and leaving open the question of how he might escape this new, apparently impossible situation.
The Cast of Part 4
In addition to Omar Sy, Part 4 will again feature Ludivine Sagnier, Antoine Gouy, Soufiane Guerrab, and Shirine Boutella. The cast also includes Théo Christine and Laïka Blanc-Francard. The series was created by George Kay in collaboration with François Uzan, with the participation of Marie Roussin, Florent Meyer, and Tigran Rosine. Omar Sy and Louis Leterrier serve as showrunners, while production is led by Gaumont in collaboration with Carrousel Studios.
