Manifest: The Story Continues – What the Arrivals Spin-Off Will Cover

Do you miss Manifest and its characters? Rejoice, because they’re returning. Netflix has ordered Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery, a new science fiction series set in the same universe as the show that originally aired on NBC and later joined the streaming service with the final season. The project carries the signature of Jeff Rake, the creator and showrunner of Manifest, and of Margaret Easley and Laura Putney, its executive producers.

The Plot of Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery

Manifest told the stories of the passengers of Montego Air Flight 828, who had landed after a few hours of travel but discovered that, in the outside world, more than five years had passed. Believed to be dead, the passengers had to reintegrate into society while beginning to receive mysterious “calls,” visions and messages that seemed to guide them toward a shared destiny. At the heart of the story were the siblings Michaela and Ben Stone, who had sought to understand what really happened to Flight 828 and why they were the ones who survived.

In Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery, when a mysterious plane crashes in Denver, the passengers find themselves with no memory of who they are, where they come from, or why they are there. A young social worker and an aspiring National Security agent team up with the newcomers in an attempt to avert a catastrophe that threatens humanity, discovering along the way that they are all part of the puzzle they are trying to solve.

It is not yet clear whether members of the Manifest cast — starting with the leads Melissa Roxburgh and Josh Dallas — will be involved in the new series. Rake, however, told Tudum: “We have tried to strike a balance that would be rewarding for both the long-time fans of Manifest and those approaching the series for the first time,” apparently leaving the door open for the return of familiar faces. The co-creator added: “When the idea of Manifest popped into my head, I never imagined where it would take me. What started as a crazy idea became something bigger: a story that touched millions of people around the world. And thanks to Netflix, we were able to complete the journey and give the fans the ending they deserved. But the world of Manifest still has many stories to tell. Bringing fans a completely new mystery set in that world now is simply beyond any of my wildest dreams.”

Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of scripted series for the United States and Canada, added: “We are thrilled to expand the Manifest universe with Arrivals, led by the original creative team of Jeff Rake, Margaret Easley and Laura Putney. Their return ensures the essential creative continuity for this franchise, allowing us to honor what made the original a phenomenon, while also introducing a new perspective for fans around the world.”
