Yesterday in New York, at Villa Albertine, a notably significant ceremony took place, featuring the awarding of the Legion d’Honneur, the French honor, by President Emmanuel Macron to Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese, “for their commitment to cinema and its preservation,” as reported by a participant at the event. The highlights of the proceedings can be seen below, even though De Niro had probably already been decorated and stepped aside to make way for a friend and peer who appeared deeply moved. Francesca Scorsese, an ever-present figure by her father’s side, shared private moments from the emotional ceremony in her stories, and she — incorrectly credited as Francesca Scorcese — also contributed to the footage (it is indeed to his daughter that the father directs his words at the end of the video). Among the guests, Leonardo DiCaprio could not be missing, but he is not visible in the images.
