Not only in the United Kingdom, Meghan Markle, wife of Prince Harry, could be returning to television as well. A few days after the news of her family’s imminent move from California, where they have lived for the last six years, to a private residence outside London—not a royal property—it emerges that the former actress, renowned for her run in the successful legal drama Suits, is in “advanced negotiations” to join the cast of a well-known Netflix series: the action-drama by Guy Ritchie, The Gentlemen.
Meghan Markle Back on TV? A Possible Role in The Gentlemen
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Markle has met with Ritchie, the creator of the Emmy-winning series, “through mutual acquaintances.” For her, a role is being written for a potential third season, not yet officially announced by the streaming service. The Gentlemen is shot right in the United Kingdom and, according to some sources, the role in the series is one of the main reasons for Markle and Prince Harry’s surprising decision to return to live in the country.
If confirmed, it would be Markle’s first role since 2017, that is, since she hung up the persona of the paralegal and later lawyer Rachel Zane after seven seasons in Suits, coinciding with her engagement to Prince Harry. The couple married the following year and have two children, Archie and Lilibet.
The Gentlemen: What the Netflix Series Is About
The Gentlemen, on September 3 returning to Netflix with the episodes of its second season, follows Theo James in the role of Eddie Horniman, a former officer in the British Army who suddenly inherits the Dukedom and the sprawling family estate after his father’s death. He soon discovers that the lands host a massive clandestine empire dedicated to cannabis cultivation, run by a powerful criminal organization. Initially determined to rid himself of the illegal activity, Eddie ends up being drawn into an intricate game of alliances, betrayals, and power struggles. Paired with the capable and ruthless Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario), he must learn to navigate the world of organized crime, discovering a surprising talent for this dangerous milieu.
