An Inappropriate Taunt, Mel Gibson Admits the Mistake in a Message
While we await the first part of his The Passion of the Christ – Resurrection, due in cinemas in May 2027, Mel Gibson has had to hurriedly repair the situation after mocking a sign-language interpreter at a Fan Expo Canada event. In the online leaked videos, it’s clear that it lasts only a couple of seconds, but it’s evident that Gibson is imitating the hand movements of the woman who had just finished translating on stage. As is common in such cases, many people were outraged by the lack of tact, while others downplayed the incident. Gibson certainly does not downplay it, acknowledging that he made a mistake and can no longer take anything lightly, given that there are still those who target him for past episodes of domestic violence and antisemitic outbursts. Thus arrived an official statement from the actor and director, circulated through the press: “Sometimes when you’re pushed onto a stage, under the glare of the lights, your mind goes in a thousand directions, and there are manifestations of spontaneous and reckless stupidity. I had absolutely no ill intentions, and I certainly apologize to anyone who felt offended.” Beyond his directing work, in which he is also preparing the long-delayed Lethal Weapon 5, Gibson has several other acting projects on the horizon, in thrillers Coyote and The Canyon (recently we’ve seen him in Hunting Season).
