Melanie Lynskey Ready for Post-Yellowjackets: Bringing a Chilling True Story to TV

The imminent end of Yellowjackets after four seasons won’t pull Melanie Lynskey away from Paramount+. A three-time Emmy nominee, two of which were for her portrayal of Shauna Sadecki in the acclaimed streaming thriller, she will headline and serve as executive producer of Mushroom Murders, a new miniseries developed for the platform by Anya Beyersdorf (Apple Cider Vinegar), Daina Reid (The Handmaid’s Tale), and Deb Balderstone (Dustfall). The true crime drama draws inspiration from a well-known murder case that occurred in Australia in 2023.

Mushroom Murders: the Plot of the Miniseries with Melanie Lynskey

The story of Mushroom Murders opens with a lunch Erin Patterson (Lynskey) has prepared for her in-laws and other relatives at her home in the Victoria region of Australia. Among the courses is beef Wellington, which, unbeknownst to the guests, Erin prepared using highly toxic mushrooms, leading to the deaths of three diners. The miniseries recounts the 97 days that elapsed between that infamous meal and the woman’s subsequent arrest.

“This is an ambitious series that brings to screen a true and gripping story — capable of capturing the attention of Australia and the rest of the world — with the pace, the quality, and the creative vision that Paramount fans expect,” said Beverley McGarvey, president of Network 10 and head of Paramount Australia’s streaming division. “It is a highly impactful addition to our catalog, increasingly rich with top-tier narrative content, and we are excited to collaborate with such an extraordinary creative team to bring this story to audiences worldwide. We are also thrilled to welcome Melanie Lynskey: her extraordinary talent will be a vital asset to the series, both in front of the camera and in the role of executive producer.”
