Mom, I’m Pregnant with an Alien: Trailer for the New Zealand Horror Comedy

It could only have come from New Zealand, a land cinematically peculiar, the birthplace of Peter Jackson who debuted with his hilariously gory horror films, of Taika Waititi of What We Do In the Shadows fame, and of movies such as Black Sheep (the one about the man-eating sheep). It’s a film that told its story—tone obviously perched between horror and comedy—about a girl who finds herself pregnant by an alien. The title says it all, in every sense: Mum, I’m Alien Pregnant, namely Mamma, I’m pregnant with an alien.
A digital release is slated for October 27 in the United States, and the movie had its world premiere at Sundance last January, drawing, so far, decidedly positive reviews. Specifically, the plot follows Mary, a somewhat chaotic millennial not particularly successful in life who, as mentioned, is carrying the child of an extraterrestrial and must contend not only with this bizarre pregnancy but also with skeptical doctors, an ineffectual father, and a very overbearing mother. Will she manage to survive and take back control of her life?
