The future of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters could hold significant surprises. The Apple TV streaming service and the production studio Legendary Television are reportedly negotiating to produce a third season of the series set within the Monsterverse, the cinematic universe that includes Godzilla and King Kong. The project, however, would not be limited to continuing the story of the first two seasons: a potential renewal could coincide with a genuine creative turning point, destined to substantially alter the show’s identity.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on a Path Toward a Deep Restructuring
According to several industry outlets, the most notable development would concern the creative team. If the series returns, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters could rely on new writers and a different showrunner, marking a handover from the team that guided the development of the early seasons. Matt Fraction and Chris Black created the series, with the latter also overseeing the second season. A potential shift at the narrative helm could offer a chance to refresh the pace and outlook of the story, introducing new elements to the plot.
Also on the colossal-creature front, changes are anticipated: the third season could broaden the roster of Titans, bringing to screen new monsters from the franchise’s universe. The fate of the cast remains uncertain as well, including actors such as Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, and Kiersey Clemons. It is not clear which characters might return or whether some veteran faces will yield space to new arrivals.
Parallel to this, the television side of the Monsterverse will continue to unfold through a project independent of Monarch. Apple TV has already greenlit a prequel series focused on the young Lee Shaw, played by Wyatt Russell. Set in 1984, the story follows the character during a secret mission in the midst of the Cold War, when he must prevent the Soviets from unleashing a Titan with catastrophic potential. Leading this spin-off is Joby Harold, already involved in developing the television universe alongside Legendary. On the cinematic front, the next event is Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, scheduled for 2027. A cluster of projects that confirms the MonsterVerse’s expansion ambitions, while the potential return of Monarch could present the opportunity to inaugurate a new narrative phase.
