An intimate, personal look, rich with memories and deeply moving. Kasia Smutniak’s second documentary, following Mur, is the untold story born from the first journey she undertook in 2003 with Pietro Taricone to the Mustang region, a remote high-altitude place between Nepal and Tibet, and it then chronicles more than twenty years of visits and efforts to preserve that culture, even as climate change made living in that region increasingly difficult, year after year. Many years after that first trip, their daughter Sophie rediscovers the footage from that initial journey and from the ones her mother later made with her when she was a child.
Presented today at the 21st edition of the Rome Film Festival, in Competition in the Progressive Cinema section, Mustang is a documentary film written by Kasia Smutniak and Marella Bombini, a Fandango production in association with Luce Cinecittà, with the contribution of the Pietro Taricone Association, and thanks to the support of the Italian Buddhist Union, and it is produced by Domenico Procacci, Laura Paolucci and Kasia Smutniak. The film will be released in theaters on November 23.
We discussed it in this video interview with Kasia Smutniak.
