Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew Is the First Film to Feature an Iconic Led Zeppelin Theme

Magic is reborn. We have been closely watching what the talented Greta Gerwig has prepared for us after the success of ‘Barbie’, and the first trailer of her new project leaves us craving more. The director reopens literature’s most famous chronicles with ‘Narnia’, the adaptation of the first story in the saga within its chronology and many years before ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’.

This first teaser is special on several levels. It’s not just the return of the franchise to cinemas after a long absence, but for the first time in the history of the industry the United States uses the most iconic Led Zeppelin track. ‘Stairway to Heaven’ invites us to the marvels and the great magic that await beyond the mundane London of the late 19th century. It’s a historic moment, as the music group has long been wary of licensing the song for use in cinema. You can watch the trailer with the new version of the track below.

To Spark the Imagination

The story Gerwig brings us is one of the most important in the mythology of The Chronicles of Narnia. As such, the cast deserves to be of recognized stature, and it is with names like Daniel Craig, who will bring to life the enigmatic wizard Andrew, and Carey Mulligan, who will embody the formidable Queen Jadis and the future White Witch.

The wait to see Narnia come to life on the big screen won’t be long. ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ will hit theaters on February 12, 2027, with a couple of months’ gap before its Netflix premiere. It will arrive on the streaming platform on April 2, though the theatrical release is not to be missed in order to soak up Gerwig’s distinctive visual style.

The magic exists and we will see how Greta Gerwig delivers it in ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ (Sony Pictures)

Zeppelin, Inspired by the Story

The use of ‘Stairway to Heaven’ for the film is a surprise that the director herself hadn’t planned. According to her own words in a Q&A, the musicians Robert Plant and Jimmy Page have allowed its use because, after a meeting with her to discuss the film, they are personally delighted with the heart of the story, and apparently they are big fans of the British author C. S. Lewis.
