This fall, NCIS fans may feel adrift as they are thrust into a completely new setting, very different from what the franchise has conditioned them to over the years. Fortunately, a familiar face will stand by them during this adventure. We’re talking about NCIS: New York, the eagerly awaited spin-off featuring NCIS: Los Angeles star LL Cool J once again in the role of Special Agent Sam Hanna, for which the official trailer has been released ahead of its U.S. premiere on October 6.
NCIS: New York, new plot and character details
A creation by the same R. Scott Gemmill of the award-winning The Pitt, who previously served as showrunner of NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New York follows Special Agent Sam Hanna as he returns to his hometown of New York after years spent on undercover assignments and covert operations. Awaiting him is a completely fresh mission. When his friend and Navy Reserve officer Jack Halloway is found dead, Sam asks for permission from the Assistant Chief of the Special Agents Robyn Wells (Jennifer Beals) to probe the incident. As the team investigates Jack’s death, they work together to gather crucial information that could help identify the culprits.
The trailer shows the moment Wells introduces Sam to Nick Schaeffer (the Hawaii Five-0 star Scott Caan), a roguish character with whom he will work closely within the squad. The lineup also includes the clean-cut Wyatt Sellers (Shane Harper), the lively Addy Ross (Jacqueline Byers), and hacker-turned-networking expert Sean Sullivan (Devin Druid). Sellers hails from Alaska, where his life was markedly different from New York’s. His plans were upended by a heartbreak, and now he is trying to figure out what to do next. He is an excellent agent—tenacious and, above all, a solid, reliable, and loyal person.
Ross is descended from a long line of Navy officers. She is the youngest of four children and has three older brothers. She grew up fighting to prove herself, even for a simple slice of pizza, and this has shaped her into a very aggressive, strong, and determined woman who also deeply cares about the cases and the team. She must also confront her emotional baggage tied to her father and the complicated relationship she has with him. Sullivan, meanwhile, is a rebellious young man. He’s there because he is serving something akin to a sentence for a crime he committed. Yet the team—Wells in particular—are working to steer him onto the right path. He resists a bit, but over time he will open up, especially with Robyn.
