NCIS Season 24: Tony DiNozzo Returns as Trailer Teases Threat to the Team

The moment NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service fans had waited for more than a decade has finally arrived: Tony DiNozzo is back in the Washington, D.C. office of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service—the one famous for its orange walls—for more than a fleeting cameo. Michael Weatherly reprises his most iconic role for a storyline that will unfold across all of season 24, which premieres in the United States on October 6, and the trailer released by CBS offers a first glimpse.

NCIS 24: Tony DiNozzo’s Return and Other Spoilers

The preview shows a panel of senior officers unsettled by a security breach. At that moment, one asks: “What does Mr. DiNozzo think?” If you’ve followed the character’s arc since his farewell to NCIS at the end of season 13, especially those told in the recent spin-off NCIS: Tony & Ziva, you’ll know that Tony DiNozzo is no longer an agent and that he founded Salus Mondiale, a private security company. This is based in Paris, France. In the new season of NCIS, Tony returns to Washington with the aim of expanding his business, only to become entangled in a case that brings him back among the places and colleagues of his past.

“Something bad is about to happen… very bad, and some very smart people are worried,” Tony warns, as we see the NCIS team spring into action, guns drawn and suspects brought down as is their habit. But Tony trusts his old friends: “If Special Agent Tim McGee is paying attention, everything will be fine.” He’s a bit surprised by these words, given how Tony used to rib the character played by Sean Murray when he was a recruit at the start of the series, but Tony quickly informs him, “I’m a new person, Tim. Accept it.”

The opening plot of season 24 (in Italy, programming is still at episode 12 of the previous cycle, so beware of spoilers) titled Wayward Son (Wayward Son) reveals that the team will investigate a new and mysterious threat to the United States Secretary of the Navy, receiving help from an unexpected source: Tony DiNozzo, who has just arrived in Washington to open a branch of his private security company. In NCIS: Tony & Ziva, Salus Mondiale had fallen victim to an international conspiracy, with Tony and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) suspected of siphoning a large sum of money from Interpol. The two leads and their team had to figure out who was manipulating events while simultaneously protecting their daughter, Tali, ultimately managing to keep the company afloat and operational.
