Netflix’s home screen can only display so many rows at once. Recommendations, trending picks and familiar genre labels take priority, which means more specific collections are often difficult to reach through ordinary browsing. A simple number added to a Netflix web address can open a category page directly.
These numbers are commonly called Netflix genre codes. They are useful shortcuts rather than passwords or a way around subscription restrictions. They do not unlock secret films, change a plan or bypass regional licensing; they simply offer another route through titles that are already available to the signed-in account.
How the web address works
In a browser, the basic format is netflix.com/browse/genre/CODE. Replace “CODE” with the relevant number, sign in if asked, and Netflix should display a collection associated with that category. For example, the Action & Adventure shortcut uses 1365.
The method is easiest on a phone or computer browser, where a full address can be entered. Once a useful title has been found, it can be played there or added to My List for easier access through a television app. Menus and behaviour may vary by device, app version, region and account.

Those are broad starting points, not fixed inventories. Opening Comedies, for instance, may show a different selection from one profile to another. Why the results can differ
Netflix catalogues vary between countries because rights are licensed territory by territory. A film available in Ireland may be absent elsewhere, and titles can enter or leave the service over time. The category shortcut only organises what the account is currently entitled to watch in its region.
Profiles can make a difference too. Viewing history, language preferences, maturity settings and children’s profile restrictions may affect what appears. An empty or surprisingly short category does not necessarily mean the code is broken; there may simply be few matching titles available to that profile at that moment.
Category names and groupings can also change. Netflix regularly adjusts its interface and how it presents recommendations, while individual titles may fit several genres. Codes circulated online are best treated as practical browsing aids, not as a permanent or officially documented master catalogue.
What these numbers do not do
The word “hidden” can give the wrong impression. These collections are not locked vaults, and the numbers are not access credentials. A code cannot reveal a title Netflix does not offer in Ireland, remove adverts, provide a higher video tier or overcome parental controls.
They also do not guarantee that every film normally associated with a genre will appear. Classification is Netflix’s, and the available collection can reflect licensing, profile eligibility and the service’s current presentation. Normal account rules continue to apply when a category URL is opened.
A quicker way to browse deliberately
The real advantage is speed. Instead of scrolling through personalised rows and waiting for a suitable genre to surface, viewers can jump straight to a broad shelf, scan the available options and save promising choices. It is particularly useful when a household has agreed on a mood but not on a particular film.
Bookmarking a few working addresses can make repeat visits easier. If a link opens the Netflix app rather than the category page, trying it in a standard browser may offer a clearer result. Adding a selected title to My List can then bridge the gap between browser browsing and viewing on another device.
Used with realistic expectations, genre codes are a tidy navigation trick. They expose alternative category routes within Netflix’s existing catalogue, but they confer no extra rights and uncover no otherwise inaccessible content. The selection remains shaped by Ireland’s catalogue, the chosen profile and whatever Netflix has available that day.
