After creating the Griffin family, the stars of the cult series that has run for 27 years, and the Smiths at the heart of the similarly long-running American Dad!, Seth MacFarlane is about to bring to television another irreverent American family, the Bennetts. The surname may sound familiar to you. Indeed, these are the same characters from his most famous film, Ted, reimagined in a brand-new format with Ted: The Animated Series. Peacock has scheduled its U.S. debut for December 17, also releasing the first teaser trailer.
The plot and characters of Ted: The Animated Series
Ted: The Animated Series arrives 12 years after the release of the second film, Ted 2. It is a true sequel, but in animated form, with MacFarlane again providing the original voice of Ted, the insolent living teddy bear, and the other members of the cast from the second film Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried and Jessica Barth lending their voices to the respective characters, John Bennett, Sam Jackson and Tami-Lynn, namely Ted’s best friend, his wife and Ted’s wife. Kyle Mooney and Liz Richman, instead, are two new additions, chosen for the roles of Apollo and Ruth respectively.
The series centers on John and his inseparable friend Ted as neighbors. Both have families and hold unglamorous jobs. The comedy follows these two amiable “fumati” as they back each other up in their less-than-ideal views on marriage, parenting, and the challenges of adult life.
Created by MacFarlane, Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, Ted: The Animated Series will arrive on screens with eight episodes, to be followed by more in 2027. The animated series follows shortly the television prequel also titled Ted, canceled by Peacock after two seasons due to the high production costs. This one was set 19 years before the first film, in 1993, on the heels of Ted’s rise to fame, who remained living with his best friend in a working-class house in Boston.
