The third season of Nobody Wants This has put Noah and Joanne back in the spotlight, but they had to make room for a turbulent love triangle that occasionally stole the scene. With a new batch of episodes, the season followed Noah and Joanne into a new chapter of their lives that evolved quickly and, in parallel, deepened emotional dynamics among other characters as well. When asked about it, the cast of the TV series weighed in on the love triangle that blossomed toward the end of season 3 and what could happen in a hypothetical fourth season.
Important: going forward we will reference events from the third season of Nobody Wants This, including the season finale, so we invite you to continue reading only after you’ve finished watching to avoid unwanted spoilers.
How that love triangle in Season 3 was born and evolved: the explanation
Noah and Joanne began the third season as a couple dealing with the pros and cons of living together, and they closed this narrative arc with an unexpected twist: a quick and improvised beach wedding witnessed by a single, unknown witness. To reach that point, both had to wrestle with a torrent of different ideas and desires, but above all they had to contend with Hurricane Bina, who tried to manipulate their wedding from the start. And perhaps precisely because of that chaotic family, they decided to turn Joanne’s simple conversion into an intimate moment between husband and wife.
The chaos only intensified due to Sasha, Morgan and Esther. At the start of the season, Esther and Sasha began a new chapter in their lives as separated. Sasha tried to make sense of it, buoyed by Morgan, who urged him to dive into online dating, and their closeness at one point pushed their friendship to a borderline level. While Esther, during the third season, chose to focus on herself and even met and found a new partner, Sasha sought to explore the world as a single and eventually realized he had feelings for Morgan, feelings that were reciprocated and exploded during a brief trip to New York.
Both deeply torn, determined to preserve the friendship, they initially decided not to yield to the lure of love, but when they found themselves in a hotel, they couldn’t help but end up in bed together. Once back home, the situation spiraled out of control: Morgan initially pushed Sasha away for fear of getting hurt, but realizing she wanted him in her life as more than a friend she opened her heart, only to be rejected. Sasha, for his part, doesn’t believe he’s ready for a new relationship and prefers that everything go back to the way it was, a request that was impossible and created friction between the two and sparked chaos in the family. Sasha is Noah’s brother and Morgan is Joanne’s sister. Noah and Joanne will have to get married, which means they will share many moments as a family, forcing Morgan and Sasha to share spaces and occasions. And, as if that weren’t enough, Sasha and Esther gave into temptation again and ended up in bed together, a detail revealed in the season finale that set off a storm between the two families, who should have been focusing on Joanne’s conversion. But what will happen next?
Nobody Wants This 3, the cast comments on that complicated love triangle and reveals which side they’re on
If Netflix renews Nobody Wants This for a fourth season, where will this love triangle go? Adam Brody, who plays Noah, admitted: “I’m rooting for Sasha and Morgan; I hope they love each other, get to know each other deeply, and have a positive, lasting relationship. Is it romantic? I don’t know. I’m not sure I actually want that. It’s more complicated because part of me would also want Esther and Sasha to fall in love deeply again,” he revealed to Entertainment Weekly.
Kristen Bell, who plays Joanne, offered her take: “It’s complicated because Miriam is involved, without a doubt. If Miriam weren’t in the picture, maybe my view would be different, but I hope Sasha and Morgan learn from each other and realize that deeply meaningful friendships can be worth so much more in the long run than a simple romantic fling. But I think if there were still a chance to mend the family ties for the sake of the children, I’d probably vote in that direction,” she said, calling Miriam, Esther and Sasha’s daughter. Jackie Tohn is on a side: in her view there are only Sasha and Esther: “I think they should be together; I think she’s grown and learned. It would be really devastating if she ended up saying, ‘I worked on myself and asked myself all these questions, and it turns out the person I already had was the one I would have chosen if I had asked myself those questions, but now they’re gone.’ I’m not saying I want it, but I think it’s a very likely scenario for Esther.”
But what will the actors playing Sasha and Morgan have to say about it? Timothy Simons didn’t want to tip too much: “I think it’s nice when the quirky ones meet.” Justine Lupe, on the other hand, is happy with her character’s trajectory: “I’m excited to delve a bit deeper into it, I’m excited for Morgan to learn something. I feel like each season moves closer to understanding what she’s looking for, so I’m curious to see how it ends, whether with Sasha or someone else.” The actress concluded: “It’s not over yet. There’s more to tell. I don’t think the story is finished.” At the moment, the streaming giant has not yet renewed Nobody Wants This for a fourth season.
