North South East West: The Story of 883 Continues – Video Interview with the Directors of the New Chapter Coming to Sky and NOW

A blazing Cadillac. Cacti and signs along U.S. Route 66. The three red mesas of Monument Valley in the distance. For a moment, I feel as if I’ve traveled back thirty years and somehow landed right on the set of the music video for Nord Sud Ovest Est by 883. Yet, as pleasant as it is, I find myself in Milan, in one of the incredible spaces hidden away in the city’s courtyards, where Sky and NOW have staged a parallel world set in the 1990s, in the places where the iconic Italian duo formed by Max Pezzali and Mauro Repetto came together. Not only the ones from Pavia, but also those from Los Angeles and the California desert. Here I met the creator, co-screenwriter and director Sydney Sibilia alongside the other directors Alice Filippi, Alessio Lauria and Simone Godano, for a talk about Nord Sud Ovest Est – The Legendary Story of 883, the new season premiering exclusively on Sky and streaming only on NOW this Friday, October 9.

The eight episodes recount the events that led to the band’s second and final album, reaching the pinnacle of meteoric success. With a new record about to be released that would change everything, amid new loves, legendary concerts, the mythical Blue Jolly and America, we find Max and Mauro at the peak of fame, at a moment when everything seems possible, yet nothing is as simple as it once was. In the video interview, the four directors share what emotions they felt as they took hold of and completed the story of 883; how this second and final season differs from the previous one, from the perspectives of the plot and the characters; what was the biggest difficulty or challenge in telling the breakup of Max and Mauro; and, in light of the series’ success, which aspects they are most proud of when looking back at the time—some of them very long—for which this project was devoted.
