Who said that the Halloween week must necessarily bring only pure terror? Whoever doesn’t disdain the gloomy atmosphere, but also approves a good dose of magic and sharp humor has landed on the right article, because we will suggest three TV titles to catch during the year’s most spooky week, but with a pinch of magic that never hurts. Those tired of the usual horror stories and who prefer a more irreverent approach to the occult will be able to dive into these small-screen adventures where angels, demons and witches face rather human and hilarious problems.
Magic, demons and irony: 3 eccentric TV series for a different Halloween
Agatha All Along
A story steeped in magic, Agatha All Along began as a WandaVision spin-off and is part of the Wanda Trilogy. The fantasy-horror miniseries distributed on Disney+, follows what happened in WandaVision to Agatha Harkness, a witch initially deprived of her memories and powers who brings together an improbable coven to travel the Witch’s Road and reclaim what she has lost. By her side is also a boy, Billy, who will discover to be Wanda Maximoff’s Wiccan son. An eccentric tale that blends dark magic, biting dynamics and macabre humor, Agatha All Along offers a dark fantasy adventure perfect for Halloween week and for facing the Night of the Witches at its best.
Good Omens
Take Michael Sheen and David Tennant, assign them two very different but complementary roles and you’ll have Good Omens. A three-season comedy-fantasy series distributed on Prime Video, it draws its strength from the novel Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman which tells of the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, together on Earth since Creation as representatives of Heaven and Hell. Despite belonging to two different, opposing factions, the angel and the demon have formed a secret pact, a long-lasting alliance that has kept their relationship solid. While Aziraphale is a fussy angel who loves good food and books, Crowley is a charismatic but rebellious demon. Accompanied by a typical English humor, Good Omens follows the angel and demon in the secret mission to sabotage the Apocalypse, but a simple distraction on their part is enough to derail everything.
Lucifer
Starring the irreverent Tom Ellis, Lucifer tells the story of the archangel Lucifer Morningstar who descends to Earth from Hell and settles in Los Angeles where he opens a nightclub, the Lux, which becomes a landmark of the city. Conceived by Tom Kapinos, the urban fantasy series spans six seasons available on Netflix and sees Lucifer stepping into the role of a police consultant when he meets the detective Chloe Decker, with whom he forms an increasingly deep bond. His brother Amenadiel urges him to return to Hell, ownerless, while his right-hand Mazikeen highlights how a more human feeling is blooming within him. Using his powers of persuasion on everyone except Chloe, Lucifer becomes a valuable asset in the eyes of the detective who goes from Prince of Darkness to the protagonist of a police mystery.
