In recent years Apple TV has offered its audience numerous science-fiction stories that have quickly found success: one of the many examples is Silo, set in a post-apocalyptic context with the inhabitants of a Silo living underground without knowing why, except that the Earth is potentially poisonous. After the third season was released on streaming and in anticipation of the fourth and final season, we thought to suggest three more Apple TV science-fiction series that could capture your attention.
Apple TV and Science Fiction: The Best Series to Watch After Silo
Severance
In this case the science-fiction element is somewhat divisive. The protagonists of Severance are employees of Lumon Industries who have voluntarily accepted the idea of being split into two different people, an Inner and an Outer. Neither can communicate with the other, so the Outer has no idea what the Inner does during working hours, and conversely the Inner has no idea what life outside those stark white corridors is like for the Outer. Mark, the protagonist, is facing a heavy loss as an Outer, but as an Inner he grows close to his work team while uncovering dark secrets about Lumon and their involvement. Like Silo, it delivers a strong sense of subterranean paranoia, being set in the basement of a gigantic building, and in this case too the protagonists are victims of secrets far bigger than themselves.
Dark Matter
Starting in 2024 and recently returning with a second season streaming on Apple TV, Dark Matter is adapted from the eponymous novel and tells the story of a physicist from Chicago whose life is upended when he encounters an alternate version of himself. It happens that Jason, a family man and physicist, is kidnapped and catapulted into a parallel reality. To return to his life, he embarks on a winding journey, even meeting a variant who has chosen the scientific career to the detriment of his family. The show’s strength lies in the classic dilemma “what would have happened if…” reflecting on chances when one stands at a crossroads. The cast includes Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly.
Foundation
In the original language Foundation (Fondazione) is another powerful science-fiction title on Apple TV+ currently made up of three seasons with a fourth on the way and inspired by the eponymous literary saga by Isaac Asimov. In this case the story focuses on a threat: the fall of a vast Galactic Empire foreseen by Hari Seldon. To preserve human knowledge, a band of audacious individuals will attempt the impossible. Hari Seldon and his apprentice Gaal risk death, but end up exiled on the planet Terminus where they establish their Foundation, conducting careful studies to slow the Empire’s decline.
