Universal Pictures’ new romantic comedy invites us to a world where sex is a taboo topic and a serious danger in society. If you’re not married, there is only one night in the year when you’re allowed to indulge, and if you miss the opportunity, tough luck.
At that crossroads are the film’s two protagonists: Owen, the owner of a pizzeria, played by Callum Turner, and Allie, a singer in search of love, portrayed by Monica Barbaro. Their clashes over the course of the night push them toward an uneasy friendship, a fraught bond from which perhaps, and only perhaps, something deeper might emerge.
