If you want to fully immerse yourself in those years that seem so distant, yet still have the power to make us dream with our eyes open, here is a small list of TV series perfectly suited for you.
Period TV series with breathtaking love stories: Here are the ones we recommend
- Bridgerton
- Outlander
- The Empress
Bridgerton
In the heart of London, during the Regency era, there is the wealthy and respectable Bridgerton family, made up of a widowed mother and her eight children, who one after another must make their social debut. While all of them try to navigate a world as exciting as it is full of hazards, the mysterious Lady Whistledown continues to reveal all the secrets of anyone within her reach, sifting through their seemingly perfect lives. Bridgerton is a Netflix series from 2020 based on the novels by Julia Quinn, and surely a milestone of the genre. Here, in fact, there is nothing missing – dreamlike gowns and fairy-tale loves – but its heart is the burning passion of the numerous protagonists. Currently four seasons and 32 episodes, but it is still in production.
Outlander
Claire Randall is a British World War II-era military nurse. During a trip to Scotland with her husband, Claire is catapulted back in time: a circle of stones is a mysterious gateway that drops her into 1743. Here, amid bloody clashes between Scottish clans and the English Crown, she is taken prisoner and is forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a valiant local knight. Slowly, however, this arranged marriage becomes a love story so strong that it endures all adversities, even temporal separations. Outlander is a TV series from 2014. 8 seasons and 101 episodes that you should catch up on as soon as possible on Prime Video and NOW.
The Empress
We are in nineteenth-century Bavaria, and Elizabeth, for everyone Sissi, is just sixteen years old. A young woman with lively eyes and a rebellious nature, who has no intention of respecting the strict rules imposed by the court. Her sister, meanwhile, cannot wait to marry, to become the wife she has been raised to be; her excitement grows when she discovers that she has been destined for Francesco Giuseppe d’Austria, the Emperor Franz. Unfortunately, the latter runs into Elizabeth, and he falls head over heels for her at once. Sissi becomes the Empress of Vienna, where she must try to survive – and to keep her marriage alive – amid hostility, intrigues and conspiracies. The Empress is a TV series – still in production – from 2022 consisting of two seasons and 12 episodes that you can find on Netflix.
