Following the world premiere at the Venice Festival 2026 as the closing film, it will hit cinemas on October 29 next, distributed by PiperFilm, Dio Ride, the new film by Giovanni Veronesi, starring Pierfrancesco Favino and Silvio Orlando, with in the cast Alma Noce, Francesco Gheghi, Maurizio Lombardi, Paolo Rossi and Carlo Cecchi.
Set in the heart of the 17th century and freely inspired by real events, the story centers on liberty and the relationship between man and power through the tale of a friar who, by the strength of his humanity, changes the lives of the people he meets.

In the heart of the 1600s there is a man who speaks of God as no one had done before him: Friar Leopoldo da Casamacchia. While the Church preaches in Latin, Fra Leopoldo tells the Gospel with contagious joy, bringing relief and hope to those who listen. He speaks of a God close to men, capable of laughing together with them. His message spreads from village to village, winning the hearts of thousands who begin to follow him wherever he goes, while churches empty. The uproar reaches Rome, and the echo of that voice has a dangerous resonance for those who now govern through fear; the Pope decides to entrust the case to Cardinal Maculani, the most authoritative inquisitor of his time. What begins as a trial becomes an unexpected confrontation, destined to question beliefs that seemed unshakeable. While Leopoldo’s fate seems sealed, the fate of Maculani and of those like him who have been struck by doubt take unexpected directions. Because one can silence a voice, but not what that voice has left in others.
