The influence of Jane Austen, even on modern culture, continues to be felt. Nearly 210 years after the British author’s death, her stories still captivate people around the world. Just like the tale told in Pride and Prejudice, one of her most celebrated and beloved works, a new television adaptation is arriving on screens. The miniseries, for which Netflix has released its first official photos, now has a release date: December 3, 2026, with all six episodes available at once.

Described as “a classic and faithful adaptation of the novel”, with Dolly Alderton (All I Know About Love), one of the most acclaimed and influential voices in contemporary British fiction, handling the screenplay, and Euros Lyn (Heartstopper) directing, Pride and Prejudice takes us to rural England in Hertfordshire and Derbyshire at the dawn of the 19th century. When a group of wealthy bachelors moves into their neighborhood, the five Bennet sisters must juggle love, family, and society’s expectations in order to secure a future. Jane falls in love with the charming Mr. Bingley, while Elizabeth clashes with her prideful friend Mr. Darcy. But unexpected encounters and family scandals compel Elizabeth to reconsider her feelings and to discover the true nature of love.
The miniseries’ cast includes Emma Corrin (The Crown) as Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden (Slow Horses) as Mr. Darcy, alongside Olivia Colman (Mrs Bennet), Rufus Sewell (Mr Bennet), Freya Mavor (Jane Bennet), Daryl McCormack (Mr Bingley), Jamie Demetriou (Mr Collins), Louis Partridge (Mr Wickham), Rhea Norwood (Lydia Bennet), Hopey Parish (Mary Bennet) and Hollie Avery (Kitty Bennet).
Appearing recently at the Jane Austen Festival in Bath, Alderton stated that the adaptation will feature several Austen-inspired easter eggs: “There are a few things I’ve scattered around: I’ve read everything that remains of Jane’s letters and tried to include in Lizzy’s dialogue those moments that felt in tune with her character. I drew heavily on the sisterhood between Jane and Cassandra, reflected in the bond between Jane and Lizzy.”
