The news came somewhat as a surprise: Prime Video has decided not to renew Corri o muori (Ride or Die) for a second season. The series, which premiered on the platform on July 15, 2026 with all eight episodes, seemed to have all the right cards to continue. Yet, despite a very positive start and a steady presence in the streaming rankings, Amazon’s streaming service has chosen to end the tale of Judith and Debbie, portrayed by Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer.
Corri o muori’s ratings do not explain Prime Video’s decision
The decision raises several questions, especially because publicly available data does not seem to narrate the path of a series in trouble. On the contrary, Corri o muori earned strong praise from both critics and audiences. The viewership was far from disappointing, as the title quickly secured a prominent position in the platform’s charts. Subsequently, the series appeared on the Luminate and Nielsen rankings. Moreover, it stayed for five consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of the most-watched originals across all streaming platforms. The most significant figure concerns the week of August 3–9, when the series totaled 506 million minutes watched, reaching fifth place in Nielsen’s original streaming ranking.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Corri o muori reached 96% among critics, while the audience score stood at 85%. The series thus received positive feedback from both sides, without the usual gap between critics’ enthusiasm and viewers’ interest. So, what could have driven Prime Video to cancel the second season?
Why did Prime Video cancel the series with Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham?
If the ratings and acclaim do not seem to offer a sufficient explanation, there remains one factor the public does not have full information about: the cost of the series. Corri o muori is an action production with a top-tier cast and a story set across multiple European locations. A second season could therefore entail significant costs, especially considering the action component and the production demands tied to the locations. The issue is that the series’ actual budget is not public. Therefore, it cannot be claimed that production cost was the determining factor in the cancellation. It is, however, one possible explanation.
The situation echoes Ponies, the Peacock series with Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson. In that case too, the production delivered strong audience results and an excellent critical score, but was canceled without an immediately clear final explanation. The same could be said of the more recent Spider-Noir with Nicolas Cage, also canceled despite solid results.
Plot and cast of Ride or Die
The series revolved around Judith Burton, played by Hannah Waddingham, and Debbie Claybourne, played by Octavia Spencer. The two are best friends who believe they know everything about one another. The situation changes when Debbie discovers that Judith is hiding a secret far bigger than expected: she is an international assassin. When a mission goes catastrophically wrong and a mysterious figure tied to Judith’s past returns to her life, the two women are forced to flee together. What follows is a journey across Europe during which they must outrun law enforcement, professional killers, and dangerous criminals. The cast also included Ed Skrein, Calam Lynch, Savannah Steyn, Jamie Parker, Jacky Ido, Sylvia Hoeks, and Bill Nighy. The series was created by Tessa Coates, with Matt Miller as showrunner and Peyton Reed directing. It should be noted that the narrative structure of the first season also seemed to hint that the story would continue. The eight episodes ended with several questions and cliffhangers, leaving room for a possible second chapter.
Ride or Die could continue elsewhere?
According to Deadline, Paramount Television Studios, which produced the series, would be exploring pitching it to other platforms or networks, keeping alive the possibility of a revival. At the moment, no new buyer has been announced, and, more importantly, no official, detailed explanation has been provided for Prime Video’s decision to discontinue the series. If another platform decides to acquire the show, Judith and Debbie could still have more story to tell. For now, however, the future of Corri o muori remains unresolved.
