In 2006 the journalist Chris Hansen prepared to make television history with To Catch a Predator, the controversial format that, through undercover operations and hidden cameras, exposes on live TV sexual predators caught in the act. As the show becomes a national phenomenon and its host an audience icon, the line between information, justice and entertainment grows increasingly ambiguous, and the clash between news, entertainment and televisual voyeurism becomes ever more unsustainable.
Robert Pattinson is now set to portray Chris Hansen on the big screen in a film based on this real-life incident. Primtime, directed by Lance Oppenheim and written by Ajon Singh, will be presented in competition during the imminent Venice Film Festival and will arrive on our screens on October 15 with I Wonder Pictures. Produced by A24, the film’s cast also includes Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo and singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers.
