Quasi Vera, Fausto Brizzi: Recounting How a Real Temptation Can Be Indistinguishable from a False One – Our Video Interview

A cash-strapped actor discovers he can earn a living online through the digital avatar of a sexy woman, created via Artificial Intelligence: this is the satirical premise of Quasi Vera, a comedy directed by Fausto Brizzi and led by Frank Matano and Taylor Mega, at the head of an ensemble cast that also includes Rocío Muñoz Morales, playing the protagonist’s wife in a troubled marriage with a middle child. In the video interview below we chatted with the director and Rocío about the temptation to perform for a “digital” stand-in, about Frank Matano’s acting, unusually subtle, about childhood immersed in the digital world… and the betrayals at the heart of the film: not only romantic ones, but also betrayals of trust, sometimes misplaced in the deceit of the web.

Quasi Vera, the plot of the film with Frank Matano, Taylor Mega, Rocío Muñoz Morales and Andrea Perroni

The protagonist of Quasi Vera is Diego (Frank Matano), an actor who cannot seem to break through, not entirely at ease with the dynamics of the Italian entertainment industry. In crisis with his wife (Rocío Muñoz Morales), who is in need of money, he decides to follow the advice of a successful influencer (Laura Chiatti), introduced to him by an exuberant inseparable friend (Andrea Perroni). But he does it in his own way: Diego creates with AI a feminine and sexy avatar, Vera (Taylor Mega), with which he quickly manages to amass unthinkable sums. But how long can he keep the deception alive, especially when the idea of using Vera to help his almost-ex-wife arises, who is struggling in her marketing job?
Originating from a concept by Beatrice Campagna, Fabio Guaglione and Marcello Iappelli, Quasi Vera was scripted by Fausto Brizzi (who also directed it), Gianluca Berardi, Roberto Lipari, Herbert Simone Paragnani and Ignazio Rosato. The cast also includes Sergio Friscia, Federica Cifola and Francesco Sole. Here is the official trailer.
