Not even time to digest the news that Anne Hathaway will stand beside Tom Cruise in the Days of Thunder sequel, the 1990 film directed by Tony Scott, in which the actor reprises the role of NASCAR driver Cole Trickle. The one who drops the bomb is Randy Quaid, once a solid character actor who later became prey to various delusions, hatched scams and thefts, barely managing to dodge endless legal troubles alongside his wife, changing his look, embracing conspiracy theories and becoming one of Donald Trump’s most fervent fans. It won’t surprise those familiar with his past to hear the violent tirades he launched against the actress’s selection from his X profile. In the original film Quaid played Tim Daland, the owner of the team that fields Trickle for NASCAR races.
Quaid republishes the video announcing Cruise and Hathaway’s involvement, commenting: “She must come back. Tom, don’t be a coward. You need the original girl. It’s not personal: it’s cinema. Anne isn’t sexy, because, in case you haven’t noticed, she’s pregnant.” We’ll leave the comments to you. But, not content with that, he adds: “If I had control of the production (and fortunately I don’t), a real sequel to Days of Thunder that would be worth watching would be to see Tom and Nicole back on screen together. We don’t need a new girl, we need a new race car!” Now, all of this is, to say the least, inconsiderate, especially since after their divorce Cruise and Kidman’s relationship is virtually non-existent; yet here comes the further attack on Anne Hathaway and the true reason for his disgust: “Anne Hathaway is a hideous left-wing and woke choice for the MAGA Days of Thunder NASCAR audience. The sexier, older chick in this film must be Nicole. That is the casting that would sell the idea. What’s interesting is that when we made the first film there was also a great rush to release it. The editors were sleeping in the editing room, taking shifts. This time, it’s bizarre, as if they wanted it to come out and fail.”
But if you weren’t already baffled by all these outbursts, Quaid posted them shortly after uploading a video in which he claimed he would be in the sequel. Are we really sure this will happen? For now, we await responses from those involved. Yet we strongly doubt that Days of Thunder 2 will be the film marking Randy Quaid’s return to the big screen.

If I were in control of production, a real sequel worth watching for DAYS OF THUNDER would be seeing Tom and Nicole together on screen again. We don’t need a new girl; we need a new race car!
