Sean Hayes, alias Jack McFarland, born in 1970, hails from Chicago. After finishing high school, he attends the Illinois State University where he begins studying piano, a passion he abandons soon after completing his studies. He then moves to Los Angeles to pursue acting on stage and on television.
After a few small cameos or supporting roles, in 1998 he joined the cast of the famous TV series Will & Grace where he portrays Jack McFarland, remaining there until 2006 and then again with the revival from 2017 to 2020. In the following years, he took part in several feature films including Dream Date!, It’s Never Too Late, Soul Men, The Three Stooges, Hit and Run, and in a number of TV series including Up All Night, Smash, Sean Saves the World, The Millers.
In 2025 he stars in the films The Running Man and Is That the Last Line?, while in 2026 he participates in the miniseries Life, Larry and the Quest for Unhappiness, a series created as a comedic homage to the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence, which retraces key moments in American history through a humorous and improvised approach.
Recently he joined the cast of The Morning Show where he plays the role of Wyatt; he also continues to work in theater (he is the lead in the play The Unknown and has won the prestigious Tony Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of pianist Oscar Levant in the Broadway show Good Night, Oscar) and together with Jason Bateman and Will Arnett, hosts the SmartLess podcast. Finally, he is also a producer and, with his production company, continues to fund television shows and documentaries.
