Many years after Garage Olimpo, a milestone in cinema’s portrayal of the torture and killings under the Argentine dictatorship, drawing on a painful personal experience, Marco Bechis returns to tell those events, starting from a trial that, thirty years on, presents an Italian who spent two years in the notoriously infamous facility with a moral dilemma: to testify or to remain in his solitary daily life.
Mariano Guerra (Adriano Giannini), an Italian doctor, returns to Argentina to testify at the trial against the former military officers who abducted him, tortured him, and reduced him to slavery during the military dictatorship. His return to Buenos Aires lo costringe a confrontarsi con ciò che significa essere rimasto vivo. Return to Buenos Aires is the last film in the competition of the 83rd Venice Film Festival, an international co-production between Italy and Brazil that will be released in theaters on September 17 by Fandango Distribution.
