Romics 37: Dan Walker – A Career in Film and TV Prop Making

There is a Romics Special awarded during the 37th edition of the Romics, held at the Fiera di Roma: it goes to the concept designer Dan Walker, who has become associated with prop specials, props that narrate the life of an actor. He works between cinema and television, from big-screen superheroes to television traditions such as Doctor Who. Romics hosts him in a panel and has dedicated a show that remains open to visitors during the event. For more information, we invite you to consult the official Romics website.

Dan Walker, the art of concept design, awarded with a Romics Special at the Rome Fair

Sunday, October 4 at 1:45 PM, at Pavilion 8 – Hall of Major Events and Projections, there will be an event celebrating Dan Walker, as a guest on stage with Max Giovagnoli to welcome attendees of the Romics. An object can give rise to a character or a narration: in the case of the more than seventy film and television productions to which this English concept designer has contributed, crossing also the Marvel and DC universes, we encounter the Sonic Screwdrivers for Doctor Who (specifically the 9th-10th-11th), the Bat-Cycle driven by Bruce Wayne as portrayed by Ben Affleck, the suit for Matt Damon in The Martian, various elements in The Last Mission – Project Hail Mary for Ryan Gosling, who will also be involved in 2027, having contributed ideas to Star Wars: Starfighter.
Dan’s work envisions an fusion of fantastical insight and its practical design execution, coordinating several disciplines across departments such as VFX, props, armoury, and costume, to literally bring a fictional world to life: not by chance, also at Pavilion 8, there will be a show open to all fairgoers throughout the event, titled “Imaginary Vehicles and Design Inventions: The Art of Dan Walker“, populated by his evocative pieces, drawn from designs created for The Dark Knight, as well as for Spider-Man, Mission Impossible, and Harry Potter, in addition to the titles mentioned above.
