Romics 37: Sir Ian Livingstone, Founder of Games Workshop, Receives Romics Gold Lifetime Achievement Award

A true legend in the world of tabletop role-playing games, Sir Ian Livingstone has tied his name to the publisher Games Workshop and to the brands that over the decades have popularized them, including Dungeons & Dragons and Warhammer: the 37th edition of the cross-media event Romics, scheduled at the Fiera di Roma until Sunday October 4, awards him a Romics Gold Career Award, making him the star of a panel where he will recount his creative and entrepreneurial life. If you need to delve into the full program, we recommend consulting the Romics official site.

Ian Livingstone, a life for the role-playing game celebrated at Romics 37

Sir Ian Livingstone will receive his Romics Gold Career Award on Saturday, October 3 at 12, at the Hall 8 of the Fiera di Roma, Grand Events and Projections Room, during an event moderated by Max Giovagnoli, with the participation of Marco Accordi Rickards, in collaboration with Structura which made the event possible. BAFTA Special Award, a place in the UK Video Games Hall of Fame, Knight of the British Crown since 2022 for his contribution to the video game industry, Livingstone is truly a legend. If role-playing games have spread across Europe, this owes much to Ian and his partner Steve Jackson, who in 1975 co-founded Games Workshop and brought the Dungeons & Dragons myth to the UK, followed over the decades by industry benchmarks such as White Dwarf, Warhammer and Citadel Minatures.
But his influence extends beyond publishing, because in 1982 he revolutionized the books-game with the Fighting Fantasy series, starting with the first act The Warlock of Firetop Mountain. The latest chapter Freeway Fighter in 2027 will feature an augmented reality smart book version, supporting a career that has also spanned the multimedia domain, so much so that he was among the founders of Eidos Interactive (via Domark), in the era of the launches of Hitman, Tomb Raider and Deus Ex. Meeting him will be an opportunity to delve into an imaginary world that has left a mark on multiple forms of contemporary art, with a long tail that reaches today and projects into the future.
