Beyond the fanfare of the recent Comic-Con, where he had appeared dressed as Scrooge, there remains to verify whether the film truly has the chance to break through. It would seem so.

Not many will rush to see Scrooge e gli Spiriti del Natale by Ti West to learn how it ends, though it’s always a pleasure to be carried along by the flawless cadence of that Charles Dickens tale, “A Christmas Carol“, which we have all read at some point in our lives. We are, however, ready to bet that many will want to see a Johnny Depp in top form, in another role where heavy makeup lets him ham it up merrily… and it seems the film is working, at least according to the reactions from the test screenings gathered by Puck News. In the test screening that supposedly took place last week in New Jersey, the film’s average score would have hovered around 80, with Depp specifically rated at 86, numbers well above the more ambiguous averages and more common around 70 in these circumstances. If early signs are any indication, Johnny Depp could truly reopen his door to Hollywood, as hinted by producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s recent confirmation of a contract for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 in development. It’s also worth noting that for Scrooge and the Spirits of Christmas an intriguing cast has been assembled: Ian McKellen (Jacob Marley), Rupert Grint (Bob Cratchit), Andrea Riseborough (Ghost of Christmas Past), Tramell Tillman (Ghost of Christmas Present), Daisy Ridley (Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come), Sam Claflin (Fred). Also scheduled to arrive in our cinemas on November 13.
