As you may well know, next week (to be precise on November 12) Scrooge and the Spirits of Christmas will debut in Italian cinemas, the film directed by Ti West and starring Johnny Depp, which promises to tell the immortal story of Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol” from a completely unique perspective, turning the film into something of a very light gothic horror steeped in black comedy.
Well: as punctual as ever, those tricksters at Asylum – the American production company that since 1997, in Hollywood, has specialized in low-budget genre films and equally low artistic quality, and even more in those that have been dubbed mockbusters, namely blatant and proudly shabby copies of the big titles from the “serious” Studios – are gearing up to release their own take on this same reading.
The mockbuster of Scrooge and the Spirits of Christmas is titled Ebenezer Scrooge: A Christmas Carol Horror, it is about to be available in digital form and clearly positions itself as a horror version of the Dickensian tale and as a sub-brand of the Depp film. For data enthusiasts, the movie is directed by Marcel Walz, written by Joshua Pruett and features Dominic Keating, Bryan Barron, and Matthew Gademske in the lead roles.
This below is the trailer for Ebenezer Scrooge: A Christmas Carol Horror.
Returning to the “real” film that is at least somewhat horror-oriented about Scrooge, let us recall that Ti West’s film, produced by Paramount, also stars Johnny Depp alongside Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Ian McKellen, and Rupert Grint. We will see it in theaters from November 12 under Eagle Pictures’ distribution, and here, for a reminder and for a comparison with the aforementioned mockbuster, is its official Italian trailer.
