The dark passenger never truly retires, even if, judging by the Italian official trailer for the second season of Dexter: Resurrection, the aging process is unmistakably felt. In the new episodes, Dexter Morgan will face not only new adversaries but also a threat far harder to eliminate: the passage of years. The series returns to streaming on Paramount+ on October 30, 2026.
Dexter: Resurrection 2, the Plot: Two New Adversaries and the Midlife Crisis
At the center of the new episodes remains the vigilante serial killer who has built his life around a personal code of justice. This time Dexter will clash with two killers who are very different from one another. On one side there is the legendary New York Slasher, played by Brian Cox, a killer whose blood-soaked lineage digs into the past. On the other side comes the Five Boroughs Killer, portrayed by Dan Stevens, a new serial killer terrorizing New York in unprecedented ways.
For Dexter, however, the situation is further complicated by the fact that his fame now seems to belong to a different generation. In the trailer, the protagonist ponders the life he finds himself facing on the eve of his fifties and the difficulty of continuing to live in the shadows as new killers strive to seize the spotlight. The outcome is clear: while Dexter continues to hunt those he believes deserve his justice, he must contend with the sense that he has become a figure of the past. For years Dexter has sought to blend in with ordinary people. Now, however, that very existence built on deception begins to weigh on him. The character is confronted with a question far from simple: how can he continue to be the serial killer we know when the world around him changes and new generations of murderers seek to take his place?
Dexter and Harrison, Father and Son Once Again Together
Another central element of the new season will be the relationship between Dexter and Harrison, portrayed by Jack Alcott. After uncovering his father’s extracurricular activities, Harrison has embarked on his own path in pursuit of justice and now even wears a NYPD badge. The relationship between the two will therefore be tested once more. Showrunner Clyde Phillips described the dynamic between Dexter and Harrison as a father-and-son relationship marked by the need to establish new boundaries, as both prepare to face what is presented as the darkest chapter of their shared history.
The Cast: Old Faces Return, While New Characters Arrive
The second season will feature several actors who have previously appeared in the series. Alongside Michael C. Hall and Jack Alcott, we will see Uma Thurman, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa and James Remar. Among the most notable returns is Krysten Ritter, once again in the role of Mia LaPierre, alias Lady Vengeance. Lieutenant Quinn also makes a comeback, played by Desmond Harrington, a character from the original series. His presence could prove particularly significant after the events of the first season and the Angel storyline. In the main cast, we have Dan Stevens, Bokeem Woodbine, Nona Parker Johnson, and Brian Cox, while Gabriel Luna joins as a guest star.
