Slow Horses will extend its lead as Apple TV+’s series with the most seasons. The acclaimed spy thriller starring Gary Oldman, tonight honored with its third Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series, has been renewed for an eighth six-episode season. The news arrives just hours before the premiere of season six, slated on the platform for tomorrow, September 16, with a new episode each Wednesday.
Slow Horses: Two More Seasons on the Way
“Slow Horses continues to captivate audiences around the world and I am pleased that Jackson Lamb and his band of lovable misfits will return for an eighth season,” said Jay Hunt, Apple TV+’s head of international television content and creative direction, which commissioned the series. “Their caustic view of the frenetic world of espionage is absolutely unique.”
For those who aren’t familiar yet, Slow Horses follows a dysfunctional team of British intelligence officers who work in a backwater MI5 department, known by the unflattering nickname Slough House. Oldman portrays Jackson Lamb, the brilliant yet irascible head of the spies, who end up at Slough House because of mistakes that derailed their careers, often navigating the deceits and illusions that permeate the world of espionage.
The eighth season will see Lamb and Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas) face off in their most explosive confrontation yet. When a failed attempt to blackmail Park, MI5’s London headquarters, pushes Taverner onto the offensive, it falls to Lamb to reveal one of the Security Service’s darkest secrets and put an end to it once and for all. No Apple TV+ original series has gone beyond six seasons, while the longest-running production is firmly in the hands of For All Mankind, whose sixth and final season will bring its tally to 60 episodes.
